Why Kusama is so popular?
I think about it for a long time.
She is very popular in the US(Japan too).
When I was in art college in Japan, my teacher said "We should learn how the art world's history is because it indicates what we should create next." I think it is true.
Big artist Takashi Murakami said the same thing in his book.
According to this theory, she is a pioneer Pop, performance, and installation art.
However, is it the only thing that brings her so famous?
I think no.
In 2019, I saw a long line for her exhibition in New York.
I've never seen such a long line for entering.
The audience had to wait almost two hours in cold weather.
I said "Wow".
Even one of the most famous artist Damien Hirst's exhibitions doesn't make such a long line.
What makes her so high popularity?
Her dramatic life?
Character?
Artwork's looks?
Maybe everything but I don't feel some ironic element in her artworks.
Her art shows a kind of joy of life or positive feeling.
Maybe it touches not only critics but also audiences who don't know how contemporary art is.
